Chandler & Jackie’s Photo Booth

I am so excited to announce something new that I will now be offering to all of my couples: a photo booth!

This is not just a point-and-shoot camera on a tripod… It is a professionally built system that includes a professional camera and lighting on a steel frame.  It is not a closed in booth, but has a 6 foot wide open backdrop, which means that you can fit a lot more people in for a lot more fun!  And yes, I will bring props :)

I was so excited to set it up for the very first time at Chandler and Jackie’s wedding this weekend.  I had so much fun watching their guests.. and it looked like they were having fun as well.

Even Chandler’s parents got in on the fun!

This one makes me laugh!

The rest of the photos from the booth are posted on my Facebook page.. enjoy!  And email me at caroline@carolinenicolephotography.com if you are interested in setting up the booth at your event.

Family Friday #14

Goodness – it has been a busy few weeks around here!  Wedding season is in full swing, and between that, soccer practice for Chris, and life in general.. let’s just say I have graduated to 2 cups of coffee a day :)

I have wanted to share a program that I started with Chris awhile back that has helped him tremendously.  Chris is in kindergarten, and handwriting is not one of his strong points.  Whenever I watched him write I noticed that he was writing a lot of his letters backwards, he often started at the bottom instead of the top, and his writing was all over the place.  I knew that with writing like that it was impossible for him to write fluently – how could his thoughts flow onto paper when his writing was so choppy?  So I looked around for some solutions, and someone recommended a program called Handwriting Without Tears.  I bought the teacher’s edition as well as the workbook, and was very impressed with the layout and the directions.

But what really impressed me was the paper that Chris brought home from school after just the first week of working with him:

A drastic difference!  Normally his letters were all over the place, and he would usually only do a few on each line.  And it only took a few minutes a day.  So far we have finished going through all of the capital letters.

Ok.. in our house, we like doing projects!  Anna is my painter – she loves to mix all the colors.  Chris is more of a creator.  He is always trying to make something out of scraps of paper, scotch tape (we go through a ton of it!) and pipecleaners.  So I have learned to keep a good supply on hand…

I keep everything (except the paint – that is kept out of reach!) in buckets in a shelving unit in our kitchen.  The kids know they have to keep everything at the table, but from there they are free to create as they please.

A side note about the paint.. I use crayola paints, and they are great.  They come in 10 little bottles in a box.  I usually take 4-5 colors and pour a little of each on a plate, and then give one to each kid with a paintbrush.  They usually do get it on the table, their hands, etc- but all I have to do is wipe it with a damp sponge and it comes clean… thank you, Crayola :)

Have fun!

So.. in honor of summer, which is fast approaching… I thought it would be fun to have a little giveaway.  Leave a comment below, and at 9 pm Sunday evening I will randomly choose one person to receive a set of the paints and some brushes.. and I might even throw in some other goodies!  Yay for keeping kids occupied with something other than television! :)

I like this blog, Caroline! It encourages me to give Caleb more opportunities to be creative. I’m not very crafy, but maybe I could start a craft area where he could have some freedom to create. Thanks for taking time to write these blogs!

Caroline, this was a GREAT post! First, Kuddos to Chris! So glad you found a resource that has helped him! As always, your pictures are wonderful…you capture the simple, everyday moments so beautifully! Next, you have inspired me to add to my “organization to do list” and set up an art center for Ross. Although a tall art easel is nice, they can be bulky & expensive. You have given me an idea that is streamlined and functional and gives Ross options (probably more options than a big easel)! THANKS SO MUCH! Now for the question…where did you get the table top easel? Keep up the great work! I enjoy your Friday posts :-)

Love the idea of keeping the materials at their level with the simple rules so they can enjoy creativity more regularly! One thing I do with paints is put the dollops in an egg carton so each color stays in a little egg spot and then they can mix on the flatter side of the carton and then paint. Thanks for you family fridays!

Thank you all so much! Kelly, I got the easel from amazon – it is the crayola tabletop easel. We love it – it has one side with clips to attach paper to, and the other is a (black) whiteboard complete with crayons to write on. And Jessica, I love the idea of the egg carton! My kids will love that! Thanks!

Great job Chris! I need to get the kids some paint, and art stuff so they can be more crafty :)

We have all the craft stuff in the kitchen but locked up for now. Silas is SO not trustworthy! Cambrya would probably end up with marker all over her. Fun little story for you – I let Silas play outside with the hose and he is free to spray whatever he wants – usually Piper. This time he sprayed Cambrya when I walked away….poor thing was sopping wet! So I took the house and sprayed him in the head – I don’t think he will be doing that again!! LOL So glad that you found something that is helping Chris…it is so nice when we are able to give them the tools to do better. Love ya!

Thanks for all the ideas Caroline, blessings!
